Team Member Shout Out
Many grant writers and fundraising professionals have unusual career paths. In fact, it’s probably true that there are as many paths to a fundraising career as there are nonprofit fundraisers. Today, RBW Strategy’s Team Member Shout-Out acknowledges Jennie Miller, one of our colleagues with an even more unique journey into her career as a grant writer. Jennie has been working in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years and has raised nearly $15 million in grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. But her first career was in Hollywood, where she worked as a production assistant on forgettable 1990s sitcoms such as “The Mommies” and “Something So Right.” Originally from Southern California, Jennie later moved to New York City to pursue a Masters in Arts Administration, which is when she began her grant writing career. While in NYC, Jennie worked in Off-Broadway (and off-Off-Broadway) theater in various administrative jobs, all of which included grant writing. She left show business behind when she moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2011. Jennie became Grant Professional Certified (GPC) in 2012 and earned her Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential in 2021. She currently sits on the national board of the Grant Professionals Association and teaches grant writing at Arizona State University. In addition to supporting RBW clients’ grant writing needs, Jennie works with Phoenix-based nonprofits through her own business, JAM Nonprofit Consulting LLC.
