Mental Health Challenges
When I was growing up, nobody talked about going to therapy. If someone we knew went to therapy, that meant there was something “wrong” that needed to be fixed. Thankfully, while there are still so many stigmas and misperceptions about mental health challenges, people are becoming more comfortable talking about mental health. If you read our posts, you know we regularly provide #mentalhealthtips and insights for #businessowners, #remoteemployees, and those who serve in #nonprofits and #philanthropy.
May is #MentalHeathAwarenessMonth, so we’re thinking even more about how to discuss mental health challenges. It is important to find ways that we can all understand mental health. What if we flipped the script and thought about mental health the same way we thought about our cars? We regularly need to take our cars in for tune-ups, oil changes, and sometimes more extensive work is needed to address a more challenging issue. Mental health requires the same kind of constant maintenance. Sometimes there is no “cure” for a mental health challenge and different coping mechanisms need to be established at each phase of our lives. If we thought about and treated mental health the same way we take care of our cars, imagine how this would change our lives.
