Fundraising is a Team Sport
I’m not going to mince words. Fundraising is hard work, whether you work directly for a nonprofit or work as a consultant. It’s so easy to take on the causes of the organizations you support and feel defeated if a major donor moves on, a grant is declined, or year-end appeal funding decreases.
News flash – fundraising is a team sport (and involves more than your development team). It is important that you don’t own all these issues, as this is what leads to burnout.
Our work is not for the faint of heart. It is messy, complicated, and can sometimes be more of an art than a science. Nonprofit fundraising always heats up around the holidays, so make sure you separate your value and worth from the causes you support.
