Nevada Grant Lab

NevadGrantLab

“A nonprofit corporation, started in 2020 with a vision to help nonprofits, local governments, and State agencies better access and maximize historically underutilized federal funding that can be used to build greater quality of life and opportunity for all Nevadans.” The organization does this by increasing the amount of capacity building, grant services, and data/engagement/policy services provided with a curated pool of consultants who support nonprofit organizations throughout Nevada.

RBW Strategy has partnered with Nevada GrantLab (NGL) since 2021 on several large-scale federal grant projects. These projects generally involve more than one partner and include other higher education, nonprofit, and/or municipal government partner(s) as part of a tri-party agreement with another entity.

Challenge

Nevada nonprofits face many challenges as they are often underfunded. As a state, they generally receive some of the least amount of federal grant funding compared with other states across the US. NGL was developed to counteract this trend and build Nevada nonprofits’ capacity and financial resources. Through these collaborative partnerships, NGL helps close the organizations’ resource or opportunity gap by augmenting time, resources, expertise, and coaching to support competitive federal grant applications and guidance on collaborating with grant partners.

Outcome

RBW Strategy has successfully worked on multiple grant writing efforts with NGL, leading to some significant wins, and hosted webinars on specific grant-related topics:

  • 2024 U.S. Department of Environmental Project (EPA) Clean Energy Fund’s Solar for All for the Nevada Clean Energy Fund, was selected for a $156 million award.
  • 2024 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI)
  • 2023 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Challenge America federal grant outcome: a $10,000 grant award was provided on behalf of Poetry Promise.
  • U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Housing Counseling grant program on behalf of Nevada Partners: $38,960 before post-award negotiation.
  • U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation grant program on behalf of University of Nevada, Las Vegas: served as the building block for a $2.1 million grant award.
